Packaging

Our objective is to reduce waste wherever possible. Consumer packaging is a significant part of the municipal solid waste which we want to reduce. Cardboard boxes and paper bags are used wherever possible and plastic carrier bags are fully biodegradable. Packaging is kept to a minimum. Boxed deliveries enable us to minimise the use of inner packaging and plastics. We recycle 100% of our old wood, cardboard packaging, printer cartridges and paper.

Waste

All waste must be disposed of with the least impact on the environment. At Artisan Organic Co. we aim to generate as little waste as possible. In some cases we are not yet able to reduce or recycle waste. Then there is no other option then to dispose of it by landfill. In case we are unable to sell surplus food products, we aim to donate in the most socially beneficial way.

Energy

At Artisan Organic Co. we are conscious of our carbon footprint; the energy we use, be it from the use of electricity, gas, oil, fuel used in car and commercial transport, emissions from waste disposed of, to landfill. Energy consumption is not only a significant business cost but it is also a major contributor to global warming. Every unit of energy used, be it through electricity, gas or oil, has an associated release of carbon dioxide (CO2).

At Artisan Organic Co. we recognise that Energy

  • powers our offices, shop, warehouse and transport
  • is essential in maintaining our product quality.

Artisan Organic Co. welcomes and supports initiatives to reduce global warming, particularly those to reduce carbon dioxide emissions - the single largest contributor to climate change.
As a responsible business Artisan Organic Co. is committed to use energy as efficiently as possible

Transport

Artisan Organic Co. operates commercial vehicles to provide a flexible home delivery service . That is why mileage and fuel consumption can be drastically cut through our community of customers by avoiding individual transport to supermarkets. Fuel consumed by vehicles represents the largest source of carbon dioxide emissions.

Sourcing

Artisan Organic Co. aims to

  • be a source of direct supply for consumers
  • aim at a sustainable alternative - growing quality organic vegetables on small and medium sized farms and delivering direct to the customer's doorstep within 24 hours.
  • compete on freshness and taste, and from the knowledge that the produce comes direct from the farm
  • Artisan Organic Co. aim to avoid air freighted foods. When produce has to come in from abroad, it is only imported by ship. We do NOT support airfreight because it generates approximately thirty times more carbon dioxide than sea freight. Products like bananas and pineapples can travel long distance by boat without any quality problems.
Most dried foods and grains are imported as they do not grow well in this climate. Artisan Organic Co. choose European grown products rather than further afield wherever possible.
